The children's ministry programs of The First Congregational Church of Cheshire are designed to help our youngest congregants grow in their faithfulness. As such, we seek to have our children engaged in the fullness of the congregation. From portions of worship designed just for children, to a dedicated Church School; from working alongside adults in service and outreach to outreach programs designed just for them; we seek as a congregation to respond to the developmental needs and characteristics of our children so that church becomes not only something they understand, but also becomes a place they feel comfortable.
To acheive this, we have well-trained and faithful teachers. We adhere to Safe and Nurturing Best Practices to ensure the safety of our children and the adults who care for them. We listen to our young people and respond, when able, to their request which would allow them to live more fully into their church life.
Ultimately, we seek to be Christ-like in our welcome as he welcomed all of God's children recognizing that child-like faith is perhaps our best way to know God.
Sunday Morning Church School
First Church offers Church School for children age 3- Grade 8 during our 10A.M. service. Children begin in worship with their parents, then, following “Children’s Time,” go to their classes. In the summer, we have a One Room Church School during the 9:00 AM Worship Service.
The focus of the Church School is to help our youth and children be familiar with the Bible as they develop and move through their faith journey. The goal is to nurture spiritual growth for our volunteers and our children through opportunities that enhance individual spirituality through worship, education, prayer, song, fellowship and service.
Noah's Ark Nursery
Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers, birth through age 2. These children may go directly to the Nursery before worship, or may be brought to the Nursery at any time during the service. Our Nursery is staffed at the 10 A.M. service by trained volunteers and adheres to strict safety guidelines and policies. For your convenience there is a speaker in the room so that you can listen to the entire service. In the summer, the Nursery is not staffed, but the room is available if you need a quiet space to bring your child during worship.
Melissa Clark will be sharing music with our Church School children! Melissa is an accomplished music educator and a wonderful resource for our classes. We are blessed to have her working with our children. Her full biography can be found here.
Our young people in grades 4, 5 and 6 meet once a month for a time of fellowship together.
