POSITION TITLE: Acting Director of Christian Education
REPORTS TO: The Board of Christian Education and Senior Minister
DAY TO DAY ACTIVITIES SUPERVISED BY: Senior Minister
SUPERVISES: Christian Education Assistant, Church School teachers, and Church School volunteers
PROGRAM INFORMATION: 120 registered students. (Approximately 40-50 attending on Sunday.) Ages: newborn through grade 8.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Some preferred. Negotiable for the right candidate.
COMPENSATION: Total compensation package of $38000 - $45000. Commensurate to qualifications and based on a 30 hour week.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provide interim leadership and continuity in ministry to children, youth (up through 8th grade) and their families, in accordance with the goals, objectives, and policies established by the Board of Christian Education. Collaboratively, with the ministry staff and lay leadership, help the First Congregational Church respond to God’s call.
KEY JOB TASKS:
Christian Education Programs (% of Time: 50)
Maintain and coordinate educational ministries for children, youth and their families.
Recruit, train and support church school volunteers.
Coordinate and prepare special programs such as Children’s Day, Advent workshop, Christmas Pageant, 5th grade communion, 3rd grade Bibles, Vacation Bible Camp, and Outreach.
Provide communication with parents through the church newsletter and parent letters.
Provide spiritual support to children, youth and their families when necessary.
Administrative (% of Time: 50)
Work in collaboration with the Board of Christian Education and Senior Minister in maintaining consistent operation of Church School.
Maintain consistent operation of Sunday nursery.
Oversee annual budget for the educational ministry to the Board of Christian Education.
Oversee the ordering of supplies and resource materials.
Work collegially with staff; meet weekly; support and encourage other staff members in their activities and projects.
Work closely with and delegate tasks to the Christian Education Assistant.
Collaborate with the Board of Christian Education to prepare and conduct the annual performance appraisal for the Christian Education Assistant.
Act as a resource contact for Stepping Stones Program (grades 5 & 6) leaders.
Ensure that any adult working with children or youth have appropriate background screening.
